After 8 years of loyal service to a company in Snohomish, WA, my job was suddenly outsourced. They gave me the boot, all in the name of saving a couple bucks.

I had mixed feelings. Although it was a stable job that I could count on (or so I thought!), I was treated poorly. No respect, no consideration and I hadn't seen a raise in 6 years. No sick pay and no holiday pay either. Did you ever hear the song by Bob Seger called, "Feel Like A Number?" Yup, that was me.

I was completely expendable to them and realizing that hurt.

I came to the realization that loyalty to any company was pure folly. They didn't care about me as a person. The only thing they cared about was the money I could put in their pockets and, beyond that, I was something to use and throw away at their leisure.

I needed to do something for myself, because absolutely no one else was going to do it for me.
